Varied walks in Sutton, Merton and the Surrey Hills
Formed in 1995, this friendly and socially active group has a membership of about 450 and aims to provide around 300 led walks per year - so there's always something on. Covering Sutton, much of Merton and the village of Banstead, walks range from easy local strolls to longer day hikes, taking in ancient rights of way, open commons, sunken lanes, the little River Wandle and the stunning North Downs, including beauty spots like Box Hill and Leith Hill.
Where possible they meet locally and use public transport, with car sharing for further-flung walks. There's a strong emphasis on companionship, with social events including visits to country houses, museums and cinemas woven into the programme.
