Free self-guided and group walks across the South East
Perfect if you want to walk without the commitment of joining a club, the Saturday Walkers' Club is volunteer-run, self-led and free to take part in. Its website hosts a database of over 400 public-transport-friendly walks complete with directions, maps and GPS data - from brief ambles and city walks to full-day hikes and dramatic coastal treks across London and the South East, all within an hour or so of central London.
The club also arranges several free group walks each week, open to everyone including visitors to London. You simply make your own way to the start using the published files and timings.
It's a brilliant, low-pressure way to get out into the countryside and meet other walkers.
