Inspiring Muslims to get outdoors
Founded during the 2020 lockdown by Haroon Mota, Muslim Hikers is a groundbreaking community championing diversity and inclusion in the great outdoors, inspiring Muslims and others to enjoy walking and hiking. Part of the Active Inclusion Network, its hiking events are typically attended by 150-plus people and have explored landscapes from the Peak District to Epping Forest, where 200 walkers tackled a 14-mile trail.
Event days thoughtfully incorporate prayer time, halal food and consideration for washing rituals, and many non-Muslim friends come along too. While not exclusively for women, the group is incredibly welcoming and inclusive.
Regular hikes are bookable online; some are free, others paid. It's a supportive, inspiring way to get outdoors and break down barriers.
