Long-distance social walks across London and the South East

🥾 Across London Regular social walks plus annual challenges Long-distance Day trips Social

The London group of the Long Distance Walkers Association is for those who love a proper long day on foot. It offers regular social walks of 16–20 miles, longer 25–50 mile social walks, evening walks and an annual 100-mile challenge, plus the much-loved annual Capital Challenge (a 26–28 mile event each spring).

Walks range across London, Surrey, Sussex, Kent and Essex, and all start and finish at public transport. While the distances are ambitious, the atmosphere is sociable and supportive, and it's a fantastic way to build endurance and meet seasoned walkers.

If you're working up to your first marathon-distance walk or already a confident long-distance hiker, you'll find your people here. Best suited to those comfortable with longer mileage.

Real stories of people who found their people in London.

Liam Carver · 17 June 2026 Burnout took me apart. A beginner running club is how I put myself back together. I pushed myself until I broke, then sat at home ashamed and flat. Learning to run slowly, with no one keeping score, taught me that showing up gently beats winning. Hannah Cole · 3 June 2026 I moved to London for the job. The loneliness nearly sent me home. Arriving in a city of nine million people and feeling invisible - and the ordinary Tuesday evening that slowly changed everything. Marcus Bennett · 9 June 2026 I can't do small talk. At a board game night, I finally didn't have to. Parties, pubs, the dreaded "so what do you do?" - I'd given up on meeting people. Then I sat down at a board game night and the talking just happened sideways.
