Welcoming community board gaming at an Islington tavern

🎲 Islington Weekly - Wednesdays Beginner-friendly Social Strategy games Pub-based

Welcome to the Islington and Camden Games Group, a broad and incredibly friendly bunch of tabletop enthusiasts meeting regularly at the Marquis Tavern in Islington.

Gaining momentum on Wednesday evenings, this social meetup starts with a relaxed "soft start" to catch up before splitting into tables based on preferred complexity. They play a wide variety of modern board games, from quick, lightweight ice-breakers to complex, high-strategy Euro titles.

Newcomers are warmly embraced, and the hosts always make sure everyone is comfortably accommodated in a game, even if you arrive late. Settle in with a drink and enjoy a great evening of playful camaraderie.

Real stories of people who found their people in London.

Hannah Cole · 3 June 2026 I moved to London for the job. The loneliness nearly sent me home. Arriving in a city of nine million people and feeling invisible - and the ordinary Tuesday evening that slowly changed everything. Stephen Pryce · 11 June 2026 I couldn't remember the last time I'd made a new friend. Then I made one at 41. My friendships had quietly thinned out over a decade, and I'd stopped believing new ones were still possible at my age. A weekly board game night proved me wrong. Margaret Ellison · 5 June 2026 At 68, I thought my world had got smaller. A walking group proved me wrong. After I retired and lost my husband, the house went quiet and the days got long. Then a Saturday walking group gave me back something I thought was gone for good.
